THE ULTIMATE PIONEER - THE LIVING LEGEND RETURNS TO THE RACE TRACK TO RE-WRITE THE HISTORY BOOKS
Man of the sea who has been involved in sailing all his life.
This year marks the 37th anniversary of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's historic solo and non-stop circumnavigation in the 1969 Golden Globe. He holds the record as the first person to sail single-handed round the world non-stop and has also set the record for the fastest circumnavigation in his time.
37 years after his triumph in the Golden Globe Race, Knox-Johnson will sail one of the world's fastest and most powerful monohulls into the most remote oceans on the planet: a mission that would intimidate any yachtsman half his age. Entering the Velux 5 Oceans is far more than a grand gesture and his unparalleled offshore experience - matched only by Mike Golding (Ecover) and Bernard Stamm (Cheminées Poujoulat) - makes Knox-Johnston a formidable race contender.
Although Sir Robin has been focusing on business opportunities and being at the forefront of promoting round the world yacht racing, he decided to take the plunge and return to solo sailing after his wife sadly passed away in 2003 from Ovarian cancer.
